Crashing and Burning is a mandatory story mission in Episode 5 starring Rusty Nails.
Mission Summary[]
Jekyll has been sighted around an undisclosed airport in Miami. Rusty's job is simple - find him, and put him down for good.
Gameplay[]
The Airport[]
Grab a C4 and use it on the vent. Crawl through the vent to another open area and drop down to find a hole in the wall. Kick the door and use the elevator. Go to an office area with brown carpet and find yet another brick of C4. Use it nearby the luggage. When you reach the airport lobby, use the luggage vehicle to move closer to the glass door with the green "Exit" sign (or find a barrel). Shoot a vent on top and hop over the door. Fight an unusually talkative Dark Avatar, boy!
Head upstairs, through some offices and entertainment areas and you will find a vent on the wall. This leads you to an office with the blue key card to exits this section. Open a garage door in the dark area to see a red curtain.
Crimson Abode[]
Is this a dream? Going right to the green lights will lead you to a former boss you've killed, who will tell you some interesting information. Going left following the blue lights will lead you to talk to Rosa briefly. The purple lights will lead you to a flashback to World War II, where you meet up with Grandpa Jimbo.
Grab the Garand and go to the Nazi base. Climb up a guard tower and head inside. Go right and shoot the switch in the control room window to open it, then hit the switch inside. Head through and you'll eventually be back outside. Hit the switch to lower the gates. Make your way through various parts of the castle and after the battle with several Ubersoldats jump out the window. You'll be climbing a rope.
At the top you will board a Zeppelin. Head straight and then left to some scaffolding and stairs. Work you way to the bottom of the airship and find a red opening. Then, go upstairs and work your way to the airship's front controls.
You're now back in the present. Or are you? Head through the curtain.
Final Union[]
This "flashback" took Rusty a long way from Miami... somehow. Collect all the weapons and ammo you can. Fight your way through the linear corridors filled with nazis and Ubersoldats. Eventually, talk to a spirit and grab the evidence. Go forth and fight Herr Hyde. When he is shot enough times, he'll drop to the floor and pass out to regenerate. After he takes a short "nap", talk to another nearby ghost for the code. Arm the nuke with this code. Now you have only 3 minutes to put down Jekyll's mutated final form once and for all.
Secrets[]
There are 3 secrets in this mission:
The Airport[]
- In the room with the big TV upstairs, break the glass and jump to the glass walkway (easier said than done) to get the platinum amulet.
Crimson Abode[]
- On the edge of one of the Zeppelin's fins there are 2 red candles. Jump onto the invisible platforms ahead. They will lead you to a platinum amulet.
- In the bomb bay interact with the console opposite the way to progress. This will open the door to the captain's quarters with a briefcase with Mp-44/6.
Weapons & Artifacts[]
- Mp-44/6 (Weapon, Wheaton): Located in a secret #2 in Crimson Abode described above.
Evidence/Lore[]
Hyde's Final Log: on a desk near a HUNT agent's spirit, just before the boss fight arena.
Other Items of interest[]
On top of the Zeppelin, find a rope in the deckhouse. Use it to climb down the scaffolding and then jump down onto the airship's wing. You'll find a .50 rifle here.
Trivia[]
- Rusty's outfit in the World War II flashback resembles the Stranger from Nocturne.
- On the rope climbing section, some Nazis appear to emit the Wilhelm scream when killed.
