DZ Firestorm
This is Zaxtor's DZ Firestorm, which replaces his Sonic Laser Devastator.
Loadout Desciption[]
A powerful Devastator variant that fires incendiary rockets, marred only by accuracy problems.
Gameplay[]
This weapon behaves similar to the default SL-Devastator. It will fire a burst of 2 explosive projectiles which leave a trail of fire behind them. They will swirl randomly as they travel at fairly slow speed. They will deal weak explosive damage on impact but the trail of fire will inflict severe damage to any enemy sensitive to fire. It can kill a Pig Cop or Enforcer with only 1 shot. Even Fat Commanders or Protector Drones will die in only 1 shot if you wait for the fire damage to do its job. However it won't work well against mini-bosses like Battlelords due to their immunity to fire. It has a high rate of fire and doesn't need to be reloaded.
Like most explosive weapons, it is effective against enemies in body armour and any enemy susceptible to fire. However it's not effective against heavy armour and non-organic enemies. Also it is poor underwater, as it will leave no fire trail.
Compared to the default Devastator, you will sacrifice range and direct power in favor of high indirect power. This weapon retains the qualities of the default Devastator that make it good against strong or weak enemies, lonely, in groups or in crowds. However the main deal with this weapon is that it has very random range. The projectiles will have random trajectories, so hitting semi-distant targets will be a struggle of luck. It can give some nice visuals though. One big advantage of this weapon is the fact that you do not need to even hit your enemy in order to kill it! As long as the projectile flies remotely close to the enemy, it will sustain heavy burning damage if it is sensitive to fire. This can have you kill off enemies which are hiding behind covers. It can also harm enemies that close to the one you're targeting. It can also compensate for a failed direct hit attempt. Lastly, the severe burning damage can make this weapon VERY ammo efficient. For instance, a strong enemy like the Cycloïd Commander (or even 2 or 3 together) can be killed with only 1 hit reliably, whereas you would need between 3 and 5 shots (per enemy) with the default Devastator. However, you'd better make sure you're not moving forward when you shoot, as you will burn yourself against the trails of fire, and you can severely hurt yourself. Also it is poor underwater due to the lack of trail of fire and the reduced impact damage compared to the default weapon. It can also kill an Octabrain in 1 hit somehow.
In conclusion, you can call this weapon a "Long Range Flamethrower". If you want high direct damage with decent range then DZ Firestorm won't satisfy you. But if you want a flame weapon, with indirect damage, and if you intend to use something else against mini-bosses - this weapon will be a more ammo effective choice.
You will gain 25 shots per pick-up and you can hold up to 90 in total.
Location[]
DZ Firestorm is located in the City Under Siege (first story level of the Episode 2). You can find it in the briefcase, located on a shelf in the portion where you are shrunk. You will need to use a rope from the ceiling in order to reach it. Like all weapons found in the briefcases, it will be replaced with a Health Amulet in subsequent playthroughs.
Upgrades[]
There are no upgrades for the DZ Firestorm.
Trivia[]
This weapon's design is reminiscent of that of the alternate Devastator sprite from the Duke Xtreme expansion pack.
