Daikarin is an optional 6 part EDF Side Mission. It is unlocked after completing Episode 2.

Mission Summary[]

One of the top EDF generals was assassinated by Cycloid forces; he was heading a project researching a strange new artifact that can teleport someone through time and space. Investigate and find out what Cycloids are up to. The trail starts at this small outpost of Area 51.

Gameplay[]

Part 1: Down in the Kaos[]

At the start of the level, you'll receive some fall damage. Enter the EDF offices and head left into the documents area and hit a switch behind a desk, it unlocks a cabinet in the restroom with a jetpack. Head back and fly up into the ceiling for a yellow keycard needed to unlock the elevator. Go up and press a switch in the general's office, a blue keycard is hidden behind a bookshelf. Jump through the windows and blow up a wall of the bank. Fight your way through and take an elevator into a meeting room. Press a switch next to the security monitor, go across to a hole and flick a switch inside it to open up a vault. Shoot the fire extinguisher and go inside the vault locked with a blue keycard. This will net you a red keycard to enter the hotel or you can take a vent in the vault to enter it as well. Deal with a Battlelord at the reception and take an elevator to the third floor. Take a turn and deal with another Battlelord at the pool, a switch that opens up the hotel rooms is next to the lifeguard tires. Go into Room 06 and blow up a crack in the wall, deal with Octabrains and Slimers, then use the jetpack to fly up to exit the level.

Part 2: A Dark Passage[]

Starting where the previous map ended, wait for the building on the other side to stop exploding before proceeding inside. Destroy a cracked wall and ride an elevator into Area 51 outpost. Deal with some security and bypass some forcefields with yellow keycards. At the end of the hallway, take another elevator even deeper into the complex. You need to disable the power to this part of the facility, which disables the force field, but also releases Protector Drones. Watch out for tripmine traps across the facility from now on. Head into the room on your right and deal with some opposition guarding the red and blue keycards needed for the completion of the map. Backtrack and slide through the loose electricity, but be ready for more explosions. The final room before the ending houses a cavalry alongside a Battlelord, so try to lure them into the tripmines if possible and dispose of them quickly before they do so to you. Afterwards, head into the room with the portal, use the keycards, but watch out for one last Protector Drone emerging from it and enter into it.

Part 3: Noldor's Castle[]

As you exit the time portal, you'll end up in medieval times. Proceed through the small cave area before you end up at the entrance of the castle. An amulet can be found on top of the left wall. Press the giant switch to raise the bars and enter inside the castle. Head right and go across the room with a carpet. There is a switch on your right that loops back around to a portal, but what you must do is blow up a crack in the wall to a switch with a hexagon symbol. This opens a way outside, where you need to go left back inside and press a switch, which lets you enter the purple portal. It spits you in a room behind a door alongside a switch with a rotated T symbol. By pressing it you have lowered the bars blocking the access to the graveyard located outside, but watch out for a Swinelord guarding the entrance. There are some supplies in the crates next to it you can blow up. Enter the graveyard, eliminate the opposition, blow up a hole in one of the graves on your left and jump in.

Part 4: From the Heart to the Moon[]

After dropping down the grave hole, you'll end up in a cave. Follow the linear path outside to get outside and you'll see a castle/monastery. Grab the Slot 3 weapon on the crate and before you proceed straight ahead, go to the left for some extra Slot 2 ammo and weapon. Deal with the ambush at the gate. Proceed to the left and jump across a ravine. In the courtyard area, there is a crate with medical supplies on the right to blow up with explosives. On the left is a stack of crate, jump on them and destroy a window to get inside. A way into a small library will be open on the right with a crack in the door, use an explosive to destroy it for a way back to the outside of the gate for extra supplies. Destroy the windows to get to the other side, but look out for a Battlelord. There is an open crevice in the mountain, walk through it and enter the waterfall to find another time portal. You will not be able to backtrack after entering it, so enter the open door and press a switch to open a way back into the monastery. When you step to the portal, you'll suddenly end up on the Moon, specifically the Polaris Outpost. Watch out for the tripmines in the hallway after leaving the portal, deal with some enemies guarding the entrance and enter the outpost.

Part 5: Polaris Outpost[]

Watch out for explosive barrels around the map. Head inside the teleporter and follow a straight path into an open room with a big hole, but don't jump in or you'll end up back at the start. Instead, go right and take an elevator down to the sewage pool room. Disable a forcefield and blow up a tripmine trap. Go across and take an elevator on the right, take the yellow keycard behind a force field, go back down and head into the yellow door on the left side. Go upstairs and open up Pipe 01. You can either jump into the sewage from there or go downstairs and find some supplies along with a forcefield switch there. Swim through Pipe 01 and get the red keycard, go back to the big room and open the red door. Blow up everyone using the explosives and fly up with a jetpack. Deal with a Battlelord at the top and blow the outpost to kingdom come.

Part 6: Daikarin[]

A straight-forward shot to the boss; go down the stairs and quickly rush across the water to the center of the floating object, as being in the sectors with the purple liquids (even when not standing in them) damages you. After a setpiece of explosions, grab the amulet on your left and climp to the top of the pyramid. Jump down and get ready to fight the Cycloid Overlord.

Secrets[]

Part 1: Down in the Kaos[]
  1. In the office section up the stairs, head to the first one on your right and press a switch under the table to get some body armour.
  2. In that same room, press the center of the EDF logo to get a speed item behind a vending machine.
  3. The painting upstairs next to the security monitor has some Slot 8 ammo.
  4. Use a jetpack to get inside the scaffolding, the wall is fake and houses a Slot 7 weapon and a portable medkit.
  5. There is a fake window on the left side of the scaffolding's entry, it has a large medkit and Slot 5 ammo. Going upstairs leads you back to the EDF offices.
  6. The Hotel sign at the pool on the hotel's third floor is a fake wall, it houses some large medkits and a Slot 4 weapon.
  7. In the "Employees Only" room, there is a switch hidden behind a door, which opens up a wall at the bar to some Slot 4 ammo.
  8. In the wardrobe of Room 05, there is a switch behind a hanged man, press it to open the painting for armour and a small medkit.
  • (Unmarked) On the second floor of the EDF offices, there is some armor hidden inside a lighter gray filing cabinet.
Part 2: A Dark Passage[]
  1. The elevator room with the blue and red keycards has fake walls on both sides, right side has Slot 8 weapon and ammo alongside some armour and a large medkit, left side has a Slot 7 weapon and ammo alongside a portable medkit and a speed item. These two rooms from one another are the map's two secrets.
Part 4: From the Heart to the Moon[]
  1. The wall on the left side of the barricaded gate can be opened, housing a megasphere.
  • (Unmarked) Blow up the middle stair on the right side of the barricaded gate for 3 gold amulets.
Part 5: Polaris Outpost[]
  1. There is a switch in the starting room on your right, this will open up Pipe 05 later on in the level. Jump into the sewage and swim through, you'll end up in a storage room with a speed item, armour and a Slot 5 weapon with some ammo for it.

Trivia[]

In the original release of Daikarin, From the Heart to the Moon's only secret was not only unmarked, but it also housed a secret level exit, which takes players to a recreation of E1M1 from Doom called "Doom Nukem".
