Loadout Description[]

RPK Update

RPK

A powerful machine gun with a 75-round drum; it also has a bipod that can be mounted for extra accuracy.

ALT-FIRE: Toggle Bipod

Gameplay[]

This weapon is a light machine gun; it has a good rate of fire with a large 75 round magazine in order to lay down a high amount of firepower. It packs a decent punch as it kills a Pig Cop in only 4-5 shots. Given the large magazine and rate of fire, you can kill a big bunch of enemies before needing to reload. For an LMG it has a good reload speed, roughly 1.5 seconds, a bit more if you reload from 0. As for accuracy the weapon is not that accurate. You'll have to use it in semi-close quarters but at least the penalties upon shooting remain reasonable.

If you press Alt-Fire while near a raised surface, you will be able to use its attached bipod. This renders the weapon extremely stable and accurate, it has pin-point accuracy if you crouch. In this state you can continuously fire at a distant target without loosing accuracy. However you will not be able to move in this state and you can only very slowly turn left and right and aim up or down. Therefore it is useless against very mobile targets. Also you need a support in order to use this ability. You don't need much, as a simple walkway can work. You don't even need to be crouching.

The weapon is effective against body armor but cannot penetrate heavy armor.

Overall, this weapon is very good for close range running and gunning thanks to its high power and magazine capacity. The accuracy of the main fire mode is only penalizing when facing semi-distant targets. At least the rate of fire is very easy to control. The bipod allows you to hit very distant targets with ease as long as they're not too mobile since turning left and right is very sluggish. The bipod cannot be used anywhere which is a small limitation.

Upgrades[]

There are no upgrades for the RPK.

Trivia[]

  • Before version 3, turning with the bipod was less sluggish and you could move away directly, it would remove the bipod automatically. Yet it wasn't any more practical as left/right aiming was touchy and hard. Also you could accidentally remove the bipod.
  • The ability to use the bipod is actually linked to map sectors. As long as you are at the boundary between 2 sectors, you will be able to mount the bipod, even if there's nothing in front of you. For instance empty doorways, places where the ground has 2 different shades, edges of a cliff or hole...
