Background[]
Shades are shadow-like demons from the Abyss dimension that can hurl fireballs. Moreover, they can teleport during the fight and will try to ambush the player from behind. Their skin is nearly black and partially translucent, so they are somewhat hard to see, especially in dark locations. Their fireballs are not stopped by regular armour and you would need fireproof armour to withstand the heat. Thankfully, shades are not really tough, so they are relatively easy to dispatch.
Found in Dis Base, Abyss, Welcome to Millhaven, Far Mountain Reaches, Zeta Base,
Using the MIA Gun on the shade will unlock the Enemy tracking protection Research Project.
Variants[]
There is also a red shade variant (sprite palette 24). They are slightly bigger, throw three fireballs at once, and also have more than double the health of ordinary shades.
Bestiary Information[]
Strange, shadow-like monsters that can slip in and out of darkness to attack with fireballs. Thankfully they are at least corporeal when doing this, and regular conventional weapons seem to work just fine on killing them. Try and fight them in bright areas to make your life easier.
MIA Description[]
An autopsy of this thing isn't possible, as the body seems to revert to almost a vapor and cannot be cut into. We can only prod at the holes left in it by your guns.
Trivia[]
- This enemy was probably inspired by Nightmare Imps from Doom 64.
- Sang can summon friendly shades with the alternate fire of his Unmaker.
- Needs confirmation: they can only teleport to sectors that are dark enough?
- When Sebabdukeboss20 redesigned their sprites, he used a Regenerador from Resident Evil 4 as a base.
