Underground Fortress is an optional 2 part EDF Side Mission. It is available immediately after unlocking the side missions from New LA.

Mission Summary[]

The Cycloids have made an alien train. You must board it and stop it before it reaches a city, causing havoc. Once done, you must then enter an Underground Fortress. From there you must overheat the furnace, causing the base to blow up in a couple of minutes. You must escape the fortress before it blows up.

Gameplay[]

West Aline Train

Part 1: West Alien Train[]

Wait for the ship to land, then insert the blue keycard to exit. Open the door, and go through the tunnel. When outside, follow the path to find a shack. Enter the shack, and you'll be back in the dark tunnels. Watch out for the Tripbombs. Enter the elevator at the end of the tunnel, you'll now need to board the train via teleporter. Once inside operate with the controls to shut down the forcerfield to go outside. Don't fall off the train. Falling off means instant death. Go inside one of the cabins, and flip the switch to turn off the forcefield. Then make your way to the caboose of the train. From there, enter the caboose to find a red rune key and a switch. Press the switch and make your way back to the locomotive. Insert the red rune key, but watch out for the slightly red Enforcers and a Battlelord. Pick up the blue rune key, and insert it to reveal a teleporter which will then take you to the Underground Fortress.

Part 2: Underground Fortress[]

Note: This level is prone to softlocking, so keep a save file from the start of the level on standby and DO NOT SAVE once you start overloading the reactor and during the escape.

Head down the long hallway into the Armory for supplies, then go back and enter the Transport room. Go straight into the portal, it will take you to the Delta room. Head into the Supplies room after taking the teleporter for a purple keycard. Next to the teleporter is a way down, where you use the keycard to proceed inside. Take an elevator down to trigger an alarm, nab the blue keycard and use it on the door behind you. Destroy a tank and disable the alarm, then take the elevator again and press a switch at the end to open a way to the Beta room. Get picked up by the crane and open a secret wall in front of you housing Protector Drones. Press a switch next to the security monitor to lower the force field on the upper path of the Beta room. Take that path and you'll end up in a cavern area, deal with the drones and grab the green keycard in the area with the molecule balls, but be quick, it's rigged to blow up. Head back into the long hallway and use the keycard to enter the Officers area, a red keycard is in there. Use the red keycard to open the Service Access room and open up access to the Reactor Core. Flip the switch on the left to disable the force field, grab the gray keycard on your right and head back into the cave area, there is a teleporter that takes you to an alien spacecraft. Use the keycard to enter it, then use the yellow keycard inside of it to activate four valves to raise the reactor core's temperature. Number 1 is next to the teleporter in the Delta room, Number 2 is located in the hallway that takes you to the cave, Number 3 requires you to take the tram in the Transport room and take a bridge across the reactor room. Number 4 is in the Service access room. Use the PDU to find the invisible switches. Once all 4 valves are turned, head into the Beta room and shoot the big switch behind the cisterns with a hitscan weapon. Head back into the Reactor Core and shoot the switch where the gray keycard was. Now quickly rush through the blue force field room, head down and open the door with a combination. Inside, you'll fight a boss: a giant core, shoot the center until it dies, then shoot a switch on your right with a hitscan weapon to open a door. Rush through the hallway into a cave system, take a first left and rush into the teleporter. Deal with some enforcers coming through and watch the fireworks.

Secrets[]

West Alien Train[]
  1. Before entering the shack, find a way to get on the shack. From there, jump onto a cactus near the chimney, then jump onto the chimney for an amulet, slot 6 weapon, and some slot 2 ammo.
  2. In the open area in the tunnel, there is a hidden crack on the opposite side from where the elevator is. Use an explosive to blow it up to find a room with some amulets, an slot 8 weapon and ammo, some slot 3 ammo, an Body-armour, First-aid, and a H-Item.
Underground Fortress[]
  1. In the room with boxes, where the purple keycard is, there are some boxes near a rocket. Hidden in the boxes is an secret amulet.
  2. In the hallway, after inserting the blue keycard, there is an hidden crack on the left wall. Blow it up to find a hidden room with a slot 8 weapon and ammo, slot 6 weapon, a RiotGun, a First-aid, and a Megasphere.
  3. In the big room with the crane, there is a hallway with the crusher. You'll need a Speed Item to get to the other side without getting crushed (alternately, you can sprint and slide). On the other side of the hallway is a room that contains a slot 8 weapon and ammo, some ammo for slot 3 and 4, amulets, a First-aid, and another Speed Item to get back.
  4. In the big cave area with the Protector Drones, stick to the wall of the fortress, then jump around the corner to find some amulets.
